In a grid down situation, having access to water will be a matter of life and death. Humans can only live an average of three days without water. It’s recommended that each person have at least a gallon of water for drinking, per day.
Now add in water for cooking your dehydrated meals, making coffee or tea, and brushing your teeth and washing your face and hands, and you’re up to 2 or three gallons of water a day.
This is a bare minimum and doesn’t even cover washing clothing or taking a bath; it’s just enough water to keep you alive, hydrated and somewhat hygienic. This also doesn’t take into account hot days where your water consumption will be even higher.
And let’s not forget your pets – they need drinking water too!
Fortunately, there are a wide variety of high-quality, long-term water containers and water filters available, which will be life-savers in any emergency scenario where you lose power, whether it’s short term, from a storm or any other natural disaster, or long-term, from a permanent SHTF scenario.
The time to start stocking up on them is before you need them. Once the power goes out and the water stops running, it’s too late. Stores will be over-run, if they’re even open, and the items you need will be snatched off the shelves within hours or days.
